Was that also part of what you wanted to do? GORDON: It's interesting to me the title, Letters to a Young Brother, because the idea that there's so many young black men who aren't talked to, who don't have that sage wisdom that many of us were really blessed to have. And that's where the idea for this book came. The experience reading that book really touches me. And they were put together in a book called Letters to a Young Poet. And those letters, they're brilliant, they're eloquent, and they're so touching. He actually sent a young man a number of letters over the course of about 12 years. For those of you who don't know who he is, an incredible German poet wrote a book called Letters to a Young Poet. GORDON: Hey, let me ask you: the impetus that got you to put this book together, I understand it was something that was actually given to you that inspired you to do this. HILL HARPER (Actor, Author): Thank you, great to be here. It's an inspirational book aimed at uplifting young black men. But he's also dedicated to off-screen projects, including Letters to a Young Brother. Harper also stars in the CBS television drama CSI: New York. His movie credits include Lackawanna Blues and He Got Game. After graduating from Brown University, the Iowa City native went on to get his law degree and a public administration master's from Harvard. This could help them be a better person.Film and TV star Hill Harper has an impressive resume. I would recommend this to most people, and especially people that don't have a role model in their lives. There is more than one moral to this story, because I learned many different lessons. To him, this was a positive role model and he now looked up to him. So the author tells him how to be a man and what is right and what is wrong and it is helping the boy learn the things he is telling him. He is telling the boy all about how to live life, as a man, because he doesn't have a father figure. The author, Hill Harper, writing letter to this boy in America, because he is in the military.
It is very educational on teaching you how to live a good, outgoing life and having a perspective of how to live life. It teaches you how to live like a man and to do that, you have to have RESPECT for people and even if they disrespect you, you need to be the bigger person. It teaches you some important outlooks on life and how you should think positive and believe in yourself. I think that this book is meant for kids who don't have a fatherly figure, but I have a father and I still learned from it. It has so many things that I have learned and I can use some of those things in everyday life.
The book 'Letters To A Young Brother' is a great book.
